I'm not sure how, but we've made it to Nuevo Laredo safe and sound!
The Mini Mania Cooper S has just proven itself to be absolutely
bombproof. Although we did have to bust out our tool kit twice today,
it was for other teams both times. We didn't even have a flat tire if
you can believe that, I know I certainly can't!
Jacques at
Bay Bridge Motors is a freaking miracle worker. He
installed all our upgraded bits from Mini Mania and made sure
everything was perfect. A lot of teams down here know Jacques and he
has quite the reputation for doing excellent work, I hope we just
added to it cause he rules.
Another cool thing we noticed is how many people are using Pyrotect
racing suits and harnesses. Sometimes it can be hard to pick my dad
out in the crowd if everyone is suited up. The harness straps are
comfortably soft on the shoulders, perfect for 15 hour days of being
strapped into a 5-point system.
Unichip tuned our car's ECU perfectly too I might add. I was honestly
a bit nervous about messing with the computer for an event like the
Panamericana, but I've asked a lot of this engine in the last week and
it has obliged happily at every request. Kudos to Tony at Unichip for
coming down from Oregon to personally map everything for us before we
left. Don't believe the rumors you here about Mexican gas either, we
filled up on 92 the whole time.
One of the greatest parts about La Carrera is the amazing people you
meet on the way. Carreraistas are the most insane car people you can
find worldwide, and to have the all in one place is a very special
thing. One of the absolute friendliest teams we've met is in the
classic Mini coincendently. Pedro Vidal must surely be the coolest guy
in the state of Florida. Word is Barry from MC2 Mini Magazine is
going to be running an article about them too, I can't wait to read it
and compare notes.
Ok, so I've gushed quite a bit about my sponsors for their invaluable
help in our conquering La Carrera, next up I'll blog about our final
standings
